Gary J. Garoffolo
Associate Vice President for Interim Staffing

Gary Garoffolo has 30 years of experience in financial aid administration. During his tenure with FAS, he has served as interim director of financial aid or project lead for six post-secondary institutions including public, private, and health professions schools.

Gary has helped FAS clients identify and resolve federal compliance issues, conduct staff reviews and reorganizations, and streamline business processes related to financial aid delivery. This has included working in concert with clients’ bursars, admissions and registrars’ offices.

In addition to performing office assessments, Gary works closely with Kathy Hill, FAS vice president for consulting and interim staffing, to provide on-site consulting services and project management for FAS clients.

Prior to joining FAS, he was employed by BearingPoint as a senior consultant in the Higher Education Practice. Gary was a member of a project team that worked on the U.S. Department of Education's Modernization Plan, specifically serving as functional lead on the beginning phase of the FSA4Schools Portal initiative. In addition, he helped conduct A-133 Federal Student Aid Audit Training for KPMG LLP.

Gary served as the associate director for policy implementation, training, and communication for the Oklahoma Guaranteed Student Loan Program. He worked at Oklahoma State University for 17 years, serving in the capacities of assistant, associate, and interim director of financial aid. During his tenure at Oklahoma State, Gary worked with Sigma Systems SAM. He also has experience with SunGard Banner, Datatel Colleague, and College Board PowerFAIDS software programs.

During his financial aid career, Gary has taken an active leadership role in state, regional, and national financial aid associations. He has served as president of the Oklahoma Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and chair of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Professional Development Committee. He has made numerous presentations to professional organizations and has served as a trainer for the U.S. Department of Education, as well as NASFAA.

Gary received a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University.
