Sharon Hassan

Sharon Hassan has over 30 years of student financial aid experience in both two-year and four-year public and four-year private institutions. Sharon comes to Financial Aid Services (FAS) most recently from a state agency in Maryland where she served as executive director. She brings over ten years of consulting experience serving financial aid offices across the country. Sharon has been a presenter for FSA, NASFAA, EASFAA, NCAN, and other organizations.

As a director of financial aid, Sharon’s experience includes tenure with Prince George’s Community College, Goucher College and the University of Maryland College Park. She has a broad understanding of financial aid administration, including a strong command of federal regulations. Sharon appreciates the unique needs of different types of students, especially those in the community college and online learning environments.

Sharon is experienced with several student information and financial aid systems, including Ellucian Colleague, College Board PowerFAIDS, Ellucian Banner, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid (FSA) databases and websites.

Sharon has served her profession and the community chairing the NASFAA Student Access and Diversity Committee, as a NASFAA Standards of Excellence Peer Reviewer, chairing the College Board’s Middle States Regional Council, serving as a United Negro College Fund (UNCF) mentor, and as a NASFAA Board representative-at-large. She is a certified executive coach.

Her professional memberships/affiliations include the National College Action Network (NCAN), Maryland College Application Completion (MCAC), National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), DE-DC-MD Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA), the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW Legacy [life] Member), Maryland Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the newly formed Maryland College Access Network (MDCAN).

Sharon is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and the University of Maryland University College with a Master of Science in Applied Management.
