Darylann Thomas has over 28 years of experience in Student Financial Aid. She has worked in the two-year and four-year, private, and public, institutional settings. Prior to rejoining FAS in 2020, Darylann was director of Financial Aid at Athens Technical College. As a Senior Consultant with FAS, she supports financial aid offices across the country. She provides Interim Staffing, Consulting and Assessment services to improve business processes, strengthen compliance efforts, and enhance student satisfaction.
In various financial aid leadership roles, Darylann was responsible for the strategic planning, policy development, management of staff and oversight of all aspects of student financial aid administration. These tasks include coordinating scholarship programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and management for overall responsibility for related veteran’s affairs, certification, VA audits and required reporting.
Darylann has proven knowledge of federal, state, and institutional audits, eligibility determination, preparing and disseminating awards, need analysis, verification, quality assurance, professional judgment, counseling families on Financial Aid. Several institutions have utilized Darylann in financial aid director roles for extended periods, ranging from six months to over two years. In these longer engagements, Darylann has helped to reestablish financial aid delivery and implement compliance measures to effectively serve students and reduce institutional risks related to audit and program reviews.
Darylann has extensive knowledge of Ellucian’s Banner and Colleague systems, Oracle PeopleSoft, and College Board’s PowerFAIDS. She also has years of experience using the U.S. Department of Education’s suite of technology applications, including the EDExpress software, the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) platform and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), VAOnce, and several state agencies’ state aid systems and applications.
Throughout her career, Darylann has been an active member of the Georgia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (GASFAA) and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
Darylann received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia.
