Kathryn Tuman


Kathryn Tuman has over 20 years of experience in financial aid. She began her career as a financial aid counselor at The Juilliard School. Through the years, she has ascended the financial aid ranks, taking on increasing levels of responsibility and a variety of capacities. Kathryn has held positions at Teachers College and Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University. Prior to joining Financial Aid Services (FAS), she held an executive director of financial aid position at Columbia University serving Columbia. Colleagues have looked to Kathryn for her expertise in both federal and institutional methodology. She has a keen understanding of financial aid regulations and award policies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Throughout her tenure, Kathryn has been an integral part of several effective leadership teams. She has overseen professional staff, coordinated efforts in training, and managed quality assurance. Kathryn excels at translating complex regulatory requirements into policies and procedures that are easy to understand and simple to execute. Since joining FAS, Kathryn has assisted our clients with Consulting Services. She was part of the launch of FAS’ Policy and Procedures Consulting Services, a partnership with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

Kathryn has strong user knowledge of The College Board’s PowerFAIDS and previous experience with Ellucian’s Banner and Colleague systems. She is also most proficient with the U.S. Department of Education’s suite of technology applications and systems for administering Title IV Federal Student Aid.

Over the years, Kathryn has been active in professional associations in the state of New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA), the Eastern regional association (EASFAA), and the national association (NASFAA).

Kathryn holds an undergraduate degree from Bard College and a master of arts from Teachers College at Columbia University.
