Larry Chambers

Consultant

Larry Chambers has over 40 years of student financial aid experience in having worked at for-profit, four-year public, and four-year private institutions. Most of his career has been at director level positions providing leadership and mentorship to staff sizes ranging from five to twenty-eight. He came to FAS in 2022 most recently from Rochester Institute of Technology where he served as associate vice president and director of Financial Aid. Larry believes deeply in providing excellent service to students, leveraging technology whenever to enhance the student experience, and providing financial access to higher education for those seeking assistance while meeting institutional goals and regulatory compliance.

He sees the “big picture” yet also works “in the weeds”. As a consultant, Larry supports financial aid offices across the country. He provides Interim Staffing, Consulting and Assessment services to improve business processes strengthen compliance efforts and enhance student satisfaction.

His previous experience includes tenure with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as director of financial aid, Ithaca College as director of student financial services, Niagara University, Bryant and Stratton College and the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Larry is experienced with several financial aid software systems, including Ellucian (SunGard) Banner, Oracle PeopleSoft, ProSam (Sigma Systems), College Board PowerFAIDS, home-grown systems and the U.S. Department of Education’s suite of applications and website for administering Federal Student Aid.

Engagement in financial aid association work at the national, regional, and state levels has allowed Larry to be recognized by his peers serving on NASFAA’s Board of Directors as representative-at-large and commission director as well as several committees including Association Governance and Membership. He was President of Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA), Treasurer, training, and the communication and technology committees. He currently co-chairs the Historian/Archivist committee. For the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA), he has served as regional treasurer/secretary, chairperson, and served on various committees.

Larry received his Bachelor of Arts from State University of New York College at Buffalo and Master of Science from Niagara University.
