Maurice Thomas

Consultant

Maurice Thomas is a financial aid professional of over 25 years.  His tenure includes working in a variety of community college settings. He joined FAS in 2021. As a FAS consultant, he supports financial aid offices across the country and provides Interim Staffing, Consulting, and Assessment services to improve business processes, strengthen compliance efforts, and enhance student satisfaction.

Maurice began his career at Camden County College. Over the years, he ascended the ranks, moving from a secretary to management and leadership positions at institutions such as Burlington County College, Mercer County Community College, and Salem County College. In addition to his financial aid experience, he has also held roles as the Director of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program (EOF) at Salem County College and Cumberland County College. He served as a consultant role with the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA). Prior to joining FAS, Maurice was the Director of Financial Aid at Rowan College of South Jersey.

Maurice is proficient in all facets of administering federal, state, and institutional aid. Maurice understands the complexities of institutional, program, and student eligibility. He has deep insights on need analysis in both federal and institutional methodologies (FM and IM).

Maurice has experience with several student information and financial aid systems, including Ellucian Colleague, Ellucian PowerCampus, College Board’s PowerFAIDS and the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs VA-ONCE. He is also well adept in using the U.S. Department of Education’s suite of platforms and websites, such as the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system, Direct Loan (DL) Tools, EDExpress, and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

During his financial aid career, he has been a member of and served in a leadership role in the New Jersey Association of Financial Aid Administrators (NJASFAA), Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA) and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

Maurice holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey and a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University.
