Sonia Slomba

Consultant

Sonia has over 20 years of student financial aid experience in both four-year public and four-year private institutions. Sonia came to FAS in 2019. As a consultant, she supports financial aid offices across the country. She provides Interim Staffing, Consulting and Assessment services to improve business processes, strengthen compliance efforts and enhance student satisfaction.

In her previous position as Director of Financial Aid at Central State University, from 2009 to 2019 she has had a variety of versatile responsibilities including providing leadership, daily management and direction to the office, running internal operations, directly supervising staff in all functional areas, including performance planning and management. Additional responsibilities included oversight of the division’s systems and technology area, campus-wide compliance and staff training and administering institutional merit and donor scholarship funds as well as reconciling of all federal and state programs.

Sonia is experienced with several financial aid software systems, including Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Colleague, College Board PowerFAIDS and the U.S. Department of Education’s suite of applications and website for administering Federal Student Aid.

Sonia has been an active member of several financial aid associations. They include the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), and the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) where she was elected regional representative and association secretary. Sonia has chaired and co-chaired multiple committees and task forces. She has delivered presentations and training sessions on a variety of student aid topics. She represented her institution and others as a panelist on the U.S. Department of Education’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Roundtable.

Sonia received her Bachelor of Arts from Boston College and Masters in Education counseling from Providence College.
