Compliance Officer
The FAS Compliance Officer will help transform the business, leading compliance engagements for
clients, operationalizing new compliance services, and serving as the company’s expert and internal
resource on compliance matters. This position will report to both the Vice President of Consulting
Services and the CEO of FAS, collaborating closely with FAS senior leaders and consultants to achieve the
company’s strategic vision, and quality assurance goals, while ensuring accountability of compliance for FAS
and our client engagements. The Compliance Officer needs to be passionate about client success and
making a meaningful impact on the mission of FAS.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the team lead for compliance engagements (i.e., HCM2, program reviews) to achieve
client outcomes and will be FAS’ primary liaison with the U. S. Department of Education
representatives on those engagements.- Develop, implement, and communicate corrective action plans to resolve problematic
issues and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in
the future. - Responsible for ensuring FAS achieves <5% error rates on compliance review submissions to the Dept. of Education.
- Serves as the primary contact for federal, state, and internal auditors and will work with
the staff to draft responses to audit findings. - Responsible for all final reports provided to clients on compliance engagements.
- Develop, implement, and communicate corrective action plans to resolve problematic
- In collaboration with the V.P. Consulting Services, create and implement new compliance service
offerings that FAS can take to market to help campuses navigate the constantly changing
regulatory environment.- Streamline existing compliance services.

- Serve as FAS’ compliance expert and internal resource for our Consulting and Processing staff on
compliance matters.- Research, monitor, and disseminate essential information from the U.S. Dept. of
Education, NASFAA, FINAID‐L, IFAP, and other external agencies for changes in student
aid policy that has a business impact on FAS and our clients. - Works with the FAS team to ensure new regulations are properly incorporated into all
consulting engagements. - Review compliance materials for client institutions, including Policy & Procedure
manuals, Consumer Information, Corrective Action Plans, etc. - Provide training as needed or resource materials to support consultant and processing
staff with compliance matters. - Provide thought leadership to the market on behalf of the company to position FAS as
the financial aid leader in higher Education.
- Research, monitor, and disseminate essential information from the U.S. Dept. of
- Responsible for identifying potential non‐compliance, vulnerability, and risk areas for FAS
- Report and advise the CEO on all compliance policy matters that impact FAS.
- Oversee FAS’ annual Compliance Attestation Examination with our external auditors to
ensure accordance with Chapters 3 & 4 of the U.S. Department of Education’s
Guide, Audits of Proprietary Schools and For Compliance Attestation Engagements of
Third‐Party Servicers Administering Title IV Programs.
Expected Qualifications/Skills:
- Proven success in assessing processes and developing process improvement plans to help clients
achieve measurable compliance goals. - Experience managing and leading teams and systems, which achieved strategic outcomes.
- Experience utilizing a training and coaching methodology to facilitate excellence across the
organization, including cross‐training and skill upgrading. - Exceptional project, workflow, and budget management skills with a proven track record of
establishing plans and following through on time and on budget. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a broad range
of constituents. - Strong business acumen with a good understanding of business principles and strategic planning.
- Highly proficient with M.S. Office applications
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree
- 10+ years of financial aid experience demonstrating subject matter expertise in financial aid
- 8+ years of experience in operations management
- Experience working in a matrix organizational structure is a plus.
